D600 Cuban Girl

Jay Maisel says "Light, gesture and color are key components to any photograph. Light and color are obvious, but it is gesture that is the most important."  There is gesture in everything. The goal is to find the gesture that is most telling. Photographs happen at speed of life. Frequently I find images happen burst of three. So I am always prepared for that eventuality.

This image was captured during my recent Palm Beach Photographic Workshop trip to Cuba. This image was captured at 200iso with a 28-300mm VR II lens on a 128 GB Lexar SD card. The File was the Nikon Electronic Image File format (.NEF). The image was post processed with Capture NX2 and Photoshop CS6 using Google's Nik collection software's Color efex Pro 3.0 and Viviza plug-ins.

Final file is stored and scaled using Genuine Fractals.

D800 IR Laughing Burmise School Children

This image was captured during my Palm Beach Photographic Workshop to Burma. It was a two hour boat ride on Inle lake to get to the village where this images were captured. There are few things in life as moving and as breathtaking as on the lake. It is as if you have pushed the pause button on time. When we arrived there was no one about the village. Right as we started to walk down the main road the was a cacophony of laughter and giggles, the school had just let out for recess. There were children everywhere in the school yard.  I could not fire my shutter fast enough.

The image was captured by a Nikon D-800,  camera modified for infrared. Super Enhanced color conversion done by LifePixel with a 24-120 mm Nano coated VR II lens at 400iso using the Nikon electronic file format (.Nef) Shot on Lexar 32 gigabyte 1000 speed UDMA Flash media. file was post processed using capture NX 2.0 software, Nik Color Efex 4.0 and Silver Efex Pro 2.0.

D800 A Monk in a Sea of Buddhas

This is one of those shots where I, to be honest, had hit the end of my day. Was done, my back hurt my feat were sore and I was just done. As I was walking out of the cave I came across this moment. In an instant I was just getting started, what pain? Did I here someone mention sore feet and an aching back?

The image was captured by a Nikon D-800l with a 24-120 mm Nano co
ated VR II lens using the Nikon electronic file format (.Nef) Shot on Lexar 32 gigabyte 1000 speed UDMA Flash media. file was post processed using capture NX 2.0 software, Nik Color Efex 4.0 and Silver Efex Pro 2.0.

D70 Yosemite Panorama

D70 Yosemite Panorama

The only thing I hate more than being cold is being really really cold. This ism is the image where I learned, besides that the only thin I like cold is beer and ice cream (I really don't like beer), is when you are shooting in really really really cold environments be sure to bring a cooler, keep it in the trunk and put your camera bag in the cooler, and ALWAYS put your cameras and lenses in the cooler as long as you are shooting. The reason for this is if the inside of the car is toastie warm and the outside of the car is so cold that you become a photog-a-cicle. When you get inside the car you may be frosting but the camera gear is fogging because of condensation.  It took me an hour and a half at the Awanee Lodge for my lenses to de-fog. Rough life...

Another important lesson was at the time I shot this I did not know how to assemble it. I am in the process of organizing the severs at my studio and I cam across this image in parts and pieces. SO don't trow something away now because your technique is not up to the task today. Tomorrow is always another day and as photographers we do get better with age.

The image was captured by a Nikon D-70 camera  with a 70-210f4 mm  D series lens using the Nikon electronic file format (.Nef) Shot on Lexar 8 gigabyte
Flash media. file was post processed using capture NX 2.0 software, Nik Color Efex 4.0 and Silver Efex Pro 2.0. File was hand stitched in Photoshop CS6
